I swear all I did the past week plus was go to work and watch TV.......what a waste.
I am feeling better today, couple more days and I'll be back to my healthy self.
Work is buying pizza for lunch, then dinner w/the relatives...Italian to celebrate my bro in laws count down to retiring from the state.
I want to add some health to my diet, starting with taking my vitamin consistently & Green tea(for free radical killing antioxidants).......next addition is looking like flaxseed oil (for omega-3 fatty acids)
My sis Patty (who lives in Boston) has been sending emails lately, nice to get a glimpse into whats up w/her life

home sick
I stayed home sick today(sore throat/cold).....it's been years since I took a sick day. Work called me, they have lots of problems.....wait, they just called again. I just might be appreciated more after today. lol
I should skip volleyball tonight, but I want to go..but I need to get over this damn cold.
Should I go see a doctor?? They never do anything for me - just waste my time & money.

today
I have had a sore throat for a few days - I thought about staying home sick, but i never stay home sick. I have been pretty lazy. I hate the power of the tv, so easy to just start watching the crap thats on.
My roof has a couple leaks..I tried to fix them, but it still leaked. ugh
And still no riding.

damn mechanical
Oct 16, Plattekill XC#3 and my last race of the year. My hub went @11:55, my race was scheduled for 12:00 at the top of the mountain......I had to go back to the bottom to borrow a wheel. I didnt make it to the start until 12:30, around 10-15 minutes after my group started. Ack!
The wheel I borrowed was a 8 spd, mine's 9 so I had plenty of shifting problems.
I should mention the weather, it was sprinkling, wind was gusting up to 50 mph......and it was maybe 40 degrees.
So Off I went, I didnt have granny or 2, ok adjust to that. It was tough to be motivated w/starting so far behind. I did start catching riders, beginners...but it helped the motivation. ....and I passed Jason just before the end of lap # 1. And Laszlo gave me some encouraging words as I passed thru the start/finish. Next two laps were about staying motivated, and dealing with the weather. At lap 2.5 I passed a dude in my group, and I think I lapped a couple beginners.
I ended up in 5th out of 7, with the winner beating me by 13 or so minutes.....damn mechanical!
Jason got podium (3rd out of 3)
I helped Ken move to an apartment last night, now my shoulder hurts again.

More rain, volleyball
Big surprise, its raining again.....
Volleyball was a blast last night! Last minute no shows from Scott & Katrina. Leigh was a setting machine, and I did my best to take advantage of that, Marie was on (she really wanted to win without Scott). Steve & Ram also played well. 3 W's & 1 L. We are in 1st place. rock on!
Everyone was in a good mood/many laughs, W's always help our mood.
Ken wants to go out tonight, his GF is out of town...but how do we coordinate? Damn conditional license :(
My gym was sorta bought out or something, and now are only doing classes.......and according to Leigh I have to pay additional $ to go to the new place?? I need more details

group ride
I get home at 4:15/4:20. The group ride is at 4:30 1.5 miles away, of course I bike there. I just make it in time. The pace is not that fast and maybe 8 miles we slow a bit, and a group blows by.....I hesitated (traffic) to go with them, and they are gone........so I chased for 3-4 miles no to avail. I gave up and then realized I was not on route, stop..look over..theres s ome riders, going the other way. lol. So I stick with them the rest of the way.
32 miles, 18.3 avg
Damn it gets dark early.

Lazy rainy w/e & the turkey trot
The w/e was pretty rainy, so I eneded up doing zero biking or exercising. i did clean most of the house, and painted a small wall......it looks so much better cleaned up. Steak dinner out saturday, yum. A few beers out w/Bud Sunday. ...we bumped into Frankie and a cute friend of hers at Bombers.
It's been a week since I touched my bike, I am calling it an extended rest & recovery period. I did go for a jog yetserday. The Troy Turkey trot 5K is 45 days away. Last year I trained by jogging 5K's. This year I added another 1k or so to my route and that includes a short but steep hill. My plan is to take it easy as my body gets use to jogging. Yesterday was my 2nd jog since spring, I walked up & down that hill. The turkey trot is a bad race to go for a pb (personal best) being so many people do the race , picture a traffic jam at the start........but a pb is the current plan, maybe a 24:00? that would hurt, a lot !

road ride & shock issues
Barely made it to the 4:30 MHCC group road ride, hung with the fast boys for 15 or so miles......but my back hurt so I slowed. Ended up in a group of older guys, we got off course, so we made our own w/some extra hills......ended up me & one other, I had a hard time hanging with him on the climbs...and he's 25 or more years older than me. impressive.

My 2nd Century & DH'ing @ Mount Snow
Heather & Wiley picked me up way early Sat. morning, Escalade w/the Plains trailer, big pimping yo! We had a group of 8 including several people on xc bikes! It was my 1st time all year on the DH bike, snow doesnt have a ton of trails and the main trail up top has some uphills...a 45 lbs bike is not fun to ride up hills..ugh. The weather was super nice. Our group started droping fast...crashes, broken bike parts........Wiley hurt his wrist pretty bad.....maybe broken??
Sunday I biked 10 miles to Jason's, and we took his car up to Clifton park> Sweet n Fall Century, maybe 30 riders, sag wagon, my plan was to not go up front..........but I did, 19 mph plus pace until we hit stop #1 @ 20 or so miles. Regroup, then a few miles up was the hill climb/desent race option. About 2 miles before it started I busted out front and went pretty hard......I wasnt doing the climb but they didnt know that...haha! suckers! I just rode right past the climb/option, from there to stop#2 (mile 57) it was me and one other dude.
I had a turkey sub, and chilled for a while as the others came in......then went to pee, came out & almost everyone was gone (payback?) I caught up quickly, then tried to go off with 2 others but was dropped.......hmm stuck in no mans land. The turkey sub wanted out, little hill after little hill...my pace kept dropping. 2 riders caught up, I hung with them for a couple miles then faded back, stayed solo to the finish. I was suprised to find out I was 5th back, not that it mattered...finishing matters!! A few of us endeded at TGIF's, food, beers & tequilla...and a little on the noisey side. Real good times.
mile 50=2:40
mile 98=5:30, 17.9 mph avg
total for the day=108
oh, almost forgot Heather told me to touch her ass, I did...its a nice ass !!

volleyball, a crappy ride & 90 days
Indoor volleyball league lst night, cutie Leigh's on vacation....we played good (3-1) and now are 8-4. Mike, who runs it said we are the team to beat...its nice to win after losing so much all summer.
I did a solo ride at the Pinebush http://nature.org/wherewework/northamerica/states/newyork/eastern/preserves/art1519.html
flatted, rear deral. problems AND I noticed a suspension bolt was so loose it rubbed the crank, but I couldnt get to it tighten it........so it was a crappy ride but still better than sitting home watching TV
Do the crime, serve your time.........today starts 90 days of living with a conditional license..I can drive to work, doctors, and 2-5p Saturday......tahts pretty much it, and its gonna suck! :(
Sat=DH @ snow?

Plattekill
The course was all up top and it freakin poured as we started our pre ride, plus it was very foggy and maybe 50 degrees, so after 1/2 mile we went back down to the lodge, soaked and cold. Thankfully it stopped raining just before the race, there was a small turnout (maybe 25 riders total) and my age bracket was 30-99.
All sports went at the same time and i had the lead into the singletrack, soon to be passed by a 19-29, then a couple miles in passed by someone in my group. i could not stay with him. I felt slow on the climbs, I noticed my rear tire looked like it only had 25 lbs of air - I am sure that didnt help. Another rider caught me on the longest climb, Dante in the 19-29. This actually was good because it made me pick up my pace. The course was real nice, a lot of singletrack, roots, rocks, drops, short steep climbs, couple double wide climbs, a very good mix and no complaints at all about the course. Dante & me ended up riding together for 2.5 laps, it was funny being we would pass each other at the same spots each lap. We both ended up in 2nd in our age group, and 3rd & 4th out all all sport riders. Oh yeah, we actually caught & passed an expert rider (experts started 3 minutes before us).
Even with the small turnout it was really fun, everyone was cool & encouraging to each other. Lazlo was saying some stuff about my formal DH racing, got a nice medal, a mojo tshirt, some white lighting stuff, and a huge gatorade bottle. Laz also said this is an 3 series (I missed the 1st), and the next (Oct 16) is double points and Fox is supposedly hooking him up with some nice series prize. Only if Platty posted the series points......

motm/nys champ race # 3
MOTM, race # 3 was Sunday
Having raced the same course last year(they chnaged up up a little this year), I knew what lay ahead: A fun mix of technical, rocky singletrack, some very fast doubletrack, a few nasty but short climbs, and one seriously sketchy downhill. I also knew that the first part of the course was either flat or slightly downhill. The first climb wouldn't appear until about half a mile into the race. This meant that it would be safe to go all-out at the start to try and get a good position going into the first major climb. about 4.4 miles per lap
me:
My bud Jason & I arrived early enough to do a pre ride.....(shh, dont tell him but I am trying to pass on some of my experience to open up his potential)
Anyways, I had the series lead (by 8 points) coming into this race, the dude in 2nd had some mechanical issues in race #1, and he won race # 2.....I was damned concerned.
After the start, it was him, me & a jr (that started at the same time), I dove down low going around the pond & passed Mr. #2, then passed the jr just before the steep/shale DH section. The JR and me put a gap on the rest, after another mile or so jr. faded. I felt strong, and just kept riding & waiting to be caught. I also didnt want to get over confident, and then get passed. Its kinda tough out front by yourself, I kept passing 19-29s (they left 2 minutes ahead of my group) and beginners (they had 2 short cuts). I was saving a little in case I was caught but at lap 2.5 I decided to just go as hard as I my body would allow for the last 1/2 lap.......so hammer, hammer, hammer and woo hoo cross the finish in 1st giving me the series win, and the NYS NORBA Championship!!!
