Sweat, lunch & $$$ for Tucson

After work went to the gym, did an hour on the elliptical then an hour on the bike (random hills)....damn did I leave a pool of sweat at the bike..Nasty! haha
tonight, back to the gym for some more cardio

So it appears all 3 fridges @ work are fried, I bring my lunch - tuna fish sandwich but now there's no mayo - gross. Of course we work in the boonies and its a haul to any kind of food, unless you want pay a ton for some a greasy burger at restaurant across the street

so its $410 to rent a minivan in Tucson, plus why is it $100 more to fly out Thursday compared to Wednesday, and even more to fly out Friday. Ugh! I feel poor.

8 hours

ok, so I will be trying to put in 8 hours of cardio in per week. My plan is to get in 2 hours tonight.

bored @ work & a new gym

Ack! I am so bored, will it ever be 3:45? today was the in office xmas food/gift day........the food was so-so; buffalo wings and no blue cheese? nothing healthy! if I am eating super fattening stuff it needs to traste really good! come on people.

After work, I am heading straight to planet fitness in Albany, finally getting around to joining a gym - I hope they have some good cardio equipment there. I am so bummed my old gym just does classes now - I see there are doing an occasional 60 min spin class for $12...kinda steep when your saving $ for my trip to AZ. I should recognize a couple faces at the gym, including Lehigh (on my volleyball team) and KC (until he moves to NH).

I feel I am already behind on training...time to work on my dedication/motivation.

Just 8 weeks to my next race.

In semi Finals we won 2 in a row, but in the finals we lost 3 in a row. 2nd place in standings & 2nd place in the championships....not bad, and definitely fun!

Awesome

A friend (Jackson) from Binghamton was going to be in the area and we decided to do a ride. We ended up at the Pine Bush, there was 2-3 inches of snow and most of the trails we were laying down 1st tracks! It was a blast to be outside riding! Some of the hills were tough but neither of us have studded tires....our ride time was 2 1/4 hours/ Then we headed to Ralph's for some good chow & beer. Awesome way to spend a Sunday afternoon!!

Turkey Ride (race)

It was a real last minute decision but I opted to race instead of just watch.
Its been 6 weeks since I have been on my mtn bike......and it was suppose to be about 25 degrees out. There were a few cross bikes & a couple SS's . The race was 2 hours, most laps wins (24 hour rules)
I decided to race w/the big boys in the the "open" catagory, and I had hub issues from the start (any time I cranked hard the hub would skip, so most hills and log crossings I had to hike a bike)....so my ass got kicked
The course was fun, no big climbs, a bunch of bridges.........would have been real fun if I had a functioning hub, studded tires, and feet that were not forozen !!

official turkey trot results

Overall= 527 th/2181
Division= 33rd/106
Time= 24:47
pace= 7:59

not the time I wanted, but I was 9 seconds faster than last year

Happy Turkey Day!

I did the troy turkey trot w/Debbie and her sister. It snowed about an inch & it was chilly (25 degrees). I am guessing 2500 people did the 5K, makes the start a traffic jam.....I am slightly disapointed with my time which was about 24:40. I'll check official results tomorrow

Sweet n Ice Century

pain......lots of pain. Heather & Jason somehow talked me into doing todays century ride, it was extra painful being I have barely been riding for the last 6 weeks, but I kept at it & finished.........my average was pretty slow (15.7) but i finished.
I was damn nice for the middle of Novemeber...high 40's and sunny, and a good turnout - 30 people including a couple of 1st timers. We had 2 sag wagons which so makes life easier. Then 25 of us went out for food after...including Jen.

Painful, fun, and challanging. And I am totally wiped.

work=sucks

Work was not fun the past 2 days! Tuesday was 11 hours (minus a 5 minute lunch) , today not much better - really sucks when a device (sonicwall tz170 firewall/NAT/security device) dies and your new backup for it comes out of the box not functioing- UGH!

Jogged Monday, lifted tonight and heading to volleyball shortly

Heathers century is this w/e but I am not doing it. I havent been riding much, plus I am wimpy about riding in the cold - however I am feeling bummed I will miss it.

24 hours in the Old Pueblo

I did this race last year, team of 5 coed..........we got 5th out of 40 or so teams which put us on the pdium! Our group of friends included 3 teams of 5. There is definite interest in going back, nothing definite set for teams yet - I'd like to go but have not made a decision yet.

jog

a jog after work, somehow my watch/tmer was reset midway. I like, maybe even need to keep tract of my times, so I was rather bummed. I did time myself for the last 2.5K, which I did in 11:54...pretty fast for me.

Then once home I did squat, its so easy for me to be lazy lately.

Dentist (cleaning/check up) after work......ack

Warm weather & Vail ?

its been so nice lately - high 60's in November rocks! In the past few days I went for a couple easy road rides, a jog, did some chores around the house...

My friend Ken wants to go to Vail, 5 days @ a condo sometime in January - that would freaking rock! I am sure I'd rather do Vail instead of going to Jamaica................and what if I can get on a team for 24 hours of Old Pueblo (AZ) in February?

Thursday, November 03, 2005

Aerosmith, Jamaica & Vball

I bought tics to the Aerosmith/Lenny Kravitz show at the Pepsi Arena !!

I might (not sure if I can afford it) be going here: http://www.jamaicavillas.com/summertime.html

and we lost 3 of 4 games at volleyball, I am pretty sure that means we are no longer in 1st place

weights & sponsorships?

That time of year again, did some weights (at home)....went light to not over do it. Felt pretty good.

I also made a run schedule to get me ready for the Troy turkey trot - looks like I will be biking there. http://www.troyny.gov/turkeytrot.html

For the first time ever, I am going to try to get some sponsors......I figure the NYS XC Champion might do the trick?? well, hopefully! I should be able to finish up after work/before volleyball.

I made BBQ chicken pizza, holy crap did that taste good !

Being lazy & TV

I swear all I did the past week plus was go to work and watch TV.......what a waste.
I am feeling better today, couple more days and I'll be back to my healthy self.

Work is buying pizza for lunch, then dinner w/the relatives...Italian to celebrate my bro in laws count down to retiring from the state.

I want to add some health to my diet, starting with taking my vitamin consistently & Green tea(for free radical killing antioxidants).......next addition is looking like flaxseed oil (for omega-3 fatty acids)

My sis Patty (who lives in Boston) has been sending emails lately, nice to get a glimpse into whats up w/her life

home sick

I stayed home sick today(sore throat/cold).....it's been years since I took a sick day. Work called me, they have lots of problems.....wait, they just called again. I just might be appreciated more after today. lol

I should skip volleyball tonight, but I want to go..but I need to get over this damn cold.

Should I go see a doctor?? They never do anything for me - just waste my time & money.

Tuesday, October 25, 2005

today

I have had a sore throat for a few days - I thought about staying home sick, but i never stay home sick. I have been pretty lazy. I hate the power of the tv, so easy to just start watching the crap thats on.
My roof has a couple leaks..I tried to fix them, but it still leaked. ugh
And still no riding.

stuff

lack of sunlight
toasted hub on the xc bike
no more races this year
conditional license

All this has added up to no riding for me! I guess a break is ok. I should be doing some weights/lifting my shoulder is still sore so i havent done that either.

Heathers hitting the training hard, and well, I'm not..........I need a plan for '06.
Hmm, what to do? ( by the way, did you see Heathers last blog entry, she wants me to do a "tush check". Hell yeah! :)

Tonight, burner uk at Jilians
Sat=DMV class # 1 (of 7) and my 3 legal drive hours (2-5) and chores
Sun=going to Springfield w/my sis Kathy to meet my sis Patty

Wednesday

Marie, Debbie, Jim & Leigh & myself meet at Bombers. I love Bombers...... soft taco's & rasta fries & Sams octoberfest > so good! Leigh's married, how sad....why are all the cool hotties married?

I put my HRM back on while i just chilled/watched "the office", HR went down to 45 - which is the lowest I have ever saw mine go.

damn mechanical

Oct 16, Plattekill XC#3 and my last race of the year. My hub went @11:55, my race was scheduled for 12:00 at the top of the mountain......I had to go back to the bottom to borrow a wheel. I didnt make it to the start until 12:30, around 10-15 minutes after my group started. Ack!
The wheel I borrowed was a 8 spd, mine's 9 so I had plenty of shifting problems.
I should mention the weather, it was sprinkling, wind was gusting up to 50 mph......and it was maybe 40 degrees.
So Off I went, I didnt have granny or 2, ok adjust to that. It was tough to be motivated w/starting so far behind. I did start catching riders, beginners...but it helped the motivation. ....and I passed Jason just before the end of lap # 1. And Laszlo gave me some encouraging words as I passed thru the start/finish. Next two laps were about staying motivated, and dealing with the weather. At lap 2.5 I passed a dude in my group, and I think I lapped a couple beginners.
I ended up in 5th out of 7, with the winner beating me by 13 or so minutes.....damn mechanical!
Jason got podium (3rd out of 3)

I helped Ken move to an apartment last night, now my shoulder hurts again.

Saturday, October 15, 2005

Race tomorrow

Plattekill! I had to jerry rig my shock being I didn't receive the heim thing from progressive. And it finally stopped raining today after 9 days of lots & lots rain. Tomorrow's forecast is showers and windy, gusts up to 50 mph !!! ack!
Got mud?

I feel like I haven't been riding much, tomorrow might be painful.

Jason will be picking me up @ 8am, wish us luck !

Friday, October 14, 2005

ahhhh

more rain....did an easy weight workout, 1st time since May. Woke up with a real sore shoulder, too many hits at volleyball?

Maybe a jog after work. Suppose to go "out" tonight.

More rain, volleyball

Big surprise, its raining again.....

Volleyball was a blast last night! Last minute no shows from Scott & Katrina. Leigh was a setting machine, and I did my best to take advantage of that, Marie was on (she really wanted to win without Scott). Steve & Ram also played well. 3 W's & 1 L. We are in 1st place. rock on!
Everyone was in a good mood/many laughs, W's always help our mood.

Ken wants to go out tonight, his GF is out of town...but how do we coordinate? Damn conditional license :(

My gym was sorta bought out or something, and now are only doing classes.......and according to Leigh I have to pay additional $ to go to the new place?? I need more details

group ride

I get home at 4:15/4:20. The group ride is at 4:30 1.5 miles away, of course I bike there. I just make it in time. The pace is not that fast and maybe 8 miles we slow a bit, and a group blows by.....I hesitated (traffic) to go with them, and they are gone........so I chased for 3-4 miles no to avail. I gave up and then realized I was not on route, stop..look over..theres s ome riders, going the other way. lol. So I stick with them the rest of the way.
32 miles, 18.3 avg

Damn it gets dark early.

MHCC's site http://webmhcc.org/v-web/portal/cms/index.php

Pattekill XC # 3 is Sunday. woot!

Hey, someone actually read my blog and left a comment!! Yay!

and its raining again today, tonight = volleyball

Lazy rainy w/e & the turkey trot

The w/e was pretty rainy, so I eneded up doing zero biking or exercising. i did clean most of the house, and painted a small wall......it looks so much better cleaned up. Steak dinner out saturday, yum. A few beers out w/Bud Sunday. ...we bumped into Frankie and a cute friend of hers at Bombers.

It's been a week since I touched my bike, I am calling it an extended rest & recovery period. I did go for a jog yetserday. The Troy Turkey trot 5K is 45 days away. Last year I trained by jogging 5K's. This year I added another 1k or so to my route and that includes a short but steep hill. My plan is to take it easy as my body gets use to jogging. Yesterday was my 2nd jog since spring, I walked up & down that hill. The turkey trot is a bad race to go for a pb (personal best) being so many people do the race , picture a traffic jam at the start........but a pb is the current plan, maybe a 24:00? that would hurt, a lot !

progressive & volleyball

Progresive is hooking me up w/a improved (all steel) Heim Joint.

Volleyball was good, we were a little off but stil won 3 outta 4 games

Work has been so boring lately.

road ride & shock issues

Shock linkage issues in my 2004 Iron horse Hollowpoint RL expert, I need these 2 little rubber bands and this plastic bushing for the Progressive air shock. Ska Todd (IH) via mtbr.com told me the part #'s, I'll bike over to downtube after work. see>

Barely made it to the 4:30 MHCC group road ride, hung with the fast boys for 15 or so miles......but my back hurt so I slowed. Ended up in a group of older guys, we got off course, so we made our own w/some extra hills......ended up me & one other, I had a hard time hanging with him on the climbs...and he's 25 or more years older than me. impressive.

My 2nd Century & DH'ing @ Mount Snow

Heather & Wiley picked me up way early Sat. morning, Escalade w/the Plains trailer, big pimping yo! We had a group of 8 including several people on xc bikes! It was my 1st time all year on the DH bike, snow doesnt have a ton of trails and the main trail up top has some uphills...a 45 lbs bike is not fun to ride up hills..ugh. The weather was super nice. Our group started droping fast...crashes, broken bike parts........Wiley hurt his wrist pretty bad.....maybe broken??

Sunday I biked 10 miles to Jason's, and we took his car up to Clifton park> Sweet n Fall Century, maybe 30 riders, sag wagon, my plan was to not go up front..........but I did, 19 mph plus pace until we hit stop #1 @ 20 or so miles. Regroup, then a few miles up was the hill climb/desent race option. About 2 miles before it started I busted out front and went pretty hard......I wasnt doing the climb but they didnt know that...haha! suckers! I just rode right past the climb/option, from there to stop#2 (mile 57) it was me and one other dude.
I had a turkey sub, and chilled for a while as the others came in......then went to pee, came out & almost everyone was gone (payback?) I caught up quickly, then tried to go off with 2 others but was dropped.......hmm stuck in no mans land. The turkey sub wanted out, little hill after little hill...my pace kept dropping. 2 riders caught up, I hung with them for a couple miles then faded back, stayed solo to the finish. I was suprised to find out I was 5th back, not that it mattered...finishing matters!! A few of us endeded at TGIF's, food, beers & tequilla...and a little on the noisey side. Real good times.

mile 50=2:40
mile 98=5:30, 17.9 mph avg
total for the day=108

oh, almost forgot Heather told me to touch her ass, I did...its a nice ass !!

volleyball, a crappy ride & 90 days

Indoor volleyball league lst night, cutie Leigh's on vacation....we played good (3-1) and now are 8-4. Mike, who runs it said we are the team to beat...its nice to win after losing so much all summer.

I did a solo ride at the Pinebush http://nature.org/wherewework/northamerica/states/newyork/eastern/preserves/art1519.html
flatted, rear deral. problems AND I noticed a suspension bolt was so loose it rubbed the crank, but I couldnt get to it tighten it........so it was a crappy ride but still better than sitting home watching TV

Do the crime, serve your time.........today starts 90 days of living with a conditional license..I can drive to work, doctors, and 2-5p Saturday......tahts pretty much it, and its gonna suck! :(

Sat=DH @ snow?
Sun=Heathers Century!

Tonight, the plan is to be riding dirt @ pine bush by 4:30ish.
Tomorrow starts my 90 days :(

Plattekill

The course was all up top and it freakin poured as we started our pre ride, plus it was very foggy and maybe 50 degrees, so after 1/2 mile we went back down to the lodge, soaked and cold. Thankfully it stopped raining just before the race, there was a small turnout (maybe 25 riders total) and my age bracket was 30-99.
All sports went at the same time and i had the lead into the singletrack, soon to be passed by a 19-29, then a couple miles in passed by someone in my group. i could not stay with him. I felt slow on the climbs, I noticed my rear tire looked like it only had 25 lbs of air - I am sure that didnt help. Another rider caught me on the longest climb, Dante in the 19-29. This actually was good because it made me pick up my pace. The course was real nice, a lot of singletrack, roots, rocks, drops, short steep climbs, couple double wide climbs, a very good mix and no complaints at all about the course. Dante & me ended up riding together for 2.5 laps, it was funny being we would pass each other at the same spots each lap. We both ended up in 2nd in our age group, and 3rd & 4th out all all sport riders. Oh yeah, we actually caught & passed an expert rider (experts started 3 minutes before us).
Even with the small turnout it was really fun, everyone was cool & encouraging to each other. Lazlo was saying some stuff about my formal DH racing, got a nice medal, a mojo tshirt, some white lighting stuff, and a huge gatorade bottle. Laz also said this is an 3 series (I missed the 1st), and the next (Oct 16) is double points and Fox is supposedly hooking him up with some nice series prize. Only if Platty posted the series points......

Plattekill XC race this w/e

Jason & I are doing the platty xc race Sunday.......I think's its the AMBC, but I dont expect a big turn out. www.plattekill.com

Yesterday was a MHCC group road ride, 1 mile in 6 of us ended up out front, I did this course once before, 34 miles and Hilly...19.3 avg...again, the weather was great!

Monday, I did a solo dirt ride at the Pine Bush, it was a blast and my legs felt really good. I like it there because you're almost always cruising around pretty fast...and the weather was great!

Heathers Sweat N Fall Century will be here soon!

motm/nys champ race # 3

MOTM, race # 3 was Sunday
Having raced the same course last year(they chnaged up up a little this year), I knew what lay ahead: A fun mix of technical, rocky singletrack, some very fast doubletrack, a few nasty but short climbs, and one seriously sketchy downhill. I also knew that the first part of the course was either flat or slightly downhill. The first climb wouldn't appear until about half a mile into the race. This meant that it would be safe to go all-out at the start to try and get a good position going into the first major climb. about 4.4 miles per lap
me:
My bud Jason & I arrived early enough to do a pre ride.....(shh, dont tell him but I am trying to pass on some of my experience to open up his potential)
Anyways, I had the series lead (by 8 points) coming into this race, the dude in 2nd had some mechanical issues in race #1, and he won race # 2.....I was damned concerned.
After the start, it was him, me & a jr (that started at the same time), I dove down low going around the pond & passed Mr. #2, then passed the jr just before the steep/shale DH section. The JR and me put a gap on the rest, after another mile or so jr. faded. I felt strong, and just kept riding & waiting to be caught. I also didnt want to get over confident, and then get passed. Its kinda tough out front by yourself, I kept passing 19-29s (they left 2 minutes ahead of my group) and beginners (they had 2 short cuts). I was saving a little in case I was caught but at lap 2.5 I decided to just go as hard as I my body would allow for the last 1/2 lap.......so hammer, hammer, hammer and woo hoo cross the finish in 1st giving me the series win, and the NYS NORBA Championship!!!

Thursday, August 18, 2005

Holiday Farm & Norba

Yesterday was 3rd week in a row I won my group (the fast guys havent been showing up)

It was a fun race, there was NEW singletrack to ride. Shaun will not be running the show next year, I'm hoping this series stays running. I will try to help, but I am an hour away which makes it tough. Maybe I can do web stuff, and some promotional things
.
I checked NORBA rankings (being MOTM#2 results were posted)...not bad, eh?

In partnership with Inyo National Forest.
Wednesday........
I won my group at Dalton http://www.holidayfarm.com/MTB/index.html not a lot of competition, but hey a win means free reg next week.....you should go, its a fun time
Today.........
Grip road ride w/MHCC. The pace seemed slow, I ended up at lead and I was yelled at cause I didnt know the route, so after that I jung back, and guess what at almost every route change they either missed the turn or had to stop, but no one else got yelled at, kinda pissed me off. whatever, maybe they were mad being only 2 of the 20 beat the dude w/baggies (me) up the big climb
